For The Love of Luxury,

What does it look like? When I looked up the word luxury, a synonym for it was “a bed of roses” meaning a situation that is comfortable or easy. I picture this as a room of flowers everywhere without care and every need being met. Another word for luxury is milk and honey. I think of sweetness, richness, ever-flowing.

Learning to love my life hasn’t been a bed of roses or a land flowing with milk and honey yet. I’ve been in sticky situations like having to stay at my parent’s house at 24 and feeling stuck while trying to stick to my path. Nonetheless, I understand that my experiences aren’t meant to define me but rather refine me.

Refine

remove impurities or unwanted elements from (a substance), typically as part of an industrial process.

• Similar: purify, clarify, clear, cleanse, strain, sift, filter, rarefy, distill, concentrate, process, treat, rectify.

• improve (something) by making small changes, in particular make (an idea, theory, or method) more subtle and accurate.

• Similar: improve, perfect polish (up), hone, temper, fine-tune, elaborate, touch up, revise, edit, copyedit, complete, finish, finish off.

Stance

Can you stand the weight of your experiences, value, and ideas? On a scale from your thoughts to God’s thoughts towards you. Will you choose to step into all that you are? The way that you and God think’s about you should out weigh the thoughts of others. I’m not saying to exault yourself above your external world, but i am saying that people will try to humble you into believing that “you’re not that girl” but remember that “that” is subjective.

Lately, on Tik Tok there’s this sound that says… the girls that get it, get it and the girls that don’t, don’t. Obviously, you don’t get it cause you’re not that girl, got it. ” which sounds like a mean statement but it does mean something.

We carry a lot within us and identify with things that resignate with the inner most parts of us. What works for me, what I can stand and can’t stand has to do with my unique capacity. Whoever can’t handle that wasn’t meant to carry me into their destiny.

Jeremiah 1:1 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart;”

It’s not by chance that we were created. We’re literally custom-made like our parents couldn’t control our features. Luxury equates with accessibility and exclusivity. It doesn’t get more exclusive than being one of a kind. The kind of choices we make should feel like that. Living a life of luxury isn’t about the designer items but more so it’s about designer choices. By design, I’ve always gone for tailor-made experiences. It’s okay to look around for inspiration but a key part of inspiration is that what I see or hear externally, resonates with the innermost parts of me.

There’s luxury in validity. Living life authentically is pretty expensive, it’ll cost but it pays off. A lot of things are overdue but we have to move past what hasn’t been enough for us.

Intention

(Intention is a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future. Intention involves mental activities such as planning and forethought. a determination to act in a certain way. a process or manner of healing of incised wounds)

A constant goal in my life is to live with intentionality. I don’t like to do things for no reason, I like to find the meaning in things, have meaningful experiences. I’ve always seen that there’s more to life, maybe that’s why I’ve been considered extra. I’ve learned that you have to define things for yourself sometimes. If you only follow the lines, boundaries, and what’s known by others you’ll never discover the path charted just for you.

Pay Attention

“Romanticize your life with this sound” is a popular Tik Tok trend that requires you to capture clips of your life that you do already but put them together in a way that allows you to slow down and pay attention.

You can pay a pretty penny for some pieces but if you don’t piece it together in a special way then the value goes away.

Luxury is about experiencing things that you see value in, in this case, it’s me, I’m a Luxury. Romance Me.

Romance,

Romance – a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life. (Similar: Mystery, glamour, excitement, colorfulness, color, exoticism, mystique, appeal, allure, Fascination, charm)

My relationship with romance can be explained as having a willing and ready heart. I love love. whether it’s loving food, loving an experience, a new purchase, a person, etc.

Language Barriers

Words of affirmation and quality time are some of my favorite love languages. But growing up they were some of my top challenges or ways that I didn’t feel loved. Speaking primarily about self-love. I had trouble letting my words out unless I wrote them on paper because of the fear of rejection, or abandonment meaning not having a solid audience to listen to me or go with the choices that I’m suggesting such as experiences. I didn’t believe people wanted what I had to give so often times I’ve held back my ideas and was scared to make choices.

It’s kind of difficult to be the first to see value in a thing free from external validation and affirmation. To choose for yourself first. But I think God set that up so I wouldn’t be dependent upon inconsistent things and tap into him.

Once I stopped waiting for external sources to receive what I was too scared to give, I focused on releasing and acting on what I wanted to experience. in simple terms listening to my inner voice of what I want and need and using my free will to experience and express it without being blocked.

One troubleshooting technique is writing things out. Paper and blank documents don’t need permission for you to write on them.

Also, Love is free. My journey of self-love is coated in God’s love for me. I grew up knowing God but I really started my relationship with God once I asked God for Guidance in 2013. I saw a tweet on Twitter talking about guidance retweeted it cause it resonated with me and that next Sunday the pastor literally was speaking to me about guidance and that was confirmation that I wanted to make the right choices in life. The right choices for me.
